In today's fast-paced world, it can be easy to let the cares of life distract us from what's truly important. As a Christian woman, I often find myself filling my days with activities like scrolling social media, doing laundry, and catching up on my favorite TV shows. While these things may not necessarily be bad, they can detract from my spiritual growth if I'm not careful. That's why I always come back to the verse from Isaiah 40:8: "The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever." In this blog post, I want to explore five reasons why it's so important to stand on the word of God, even when life gets busy.
The word of God is a firm foundation
When we stand on the word of God, we are standing on a firm foundation. This foundation allows us to weather the storms of life and remain strong in our faith. In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish builders. The wise builder built his house on the rock, while the foolish builder built his house on the sand. When the storms came, the house on the rock stood firm, while the house on the sand fell. In the same way, when we stand on the word of God, we are building our lives on a firm foundation that cannot be shaken. As I navigate the challenges and uncertainties of life, I've discovered the incredible value of a strong foundation. It's like an anchor that keeps me steady and focused when tough decisions arise, or when I'm eagerly seeking guidance and direction from the Lord. With a solid grounding, I feel empowered to persevere, grow, and trust in the journey ahead.
The word of God brings us peace
In a world that can often be chaotic and stressful, the word of God brings us peace. In John 14:27, Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." When we stand on the word of God, we can trust that no matter what happens, we have a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). During a tough battle with my health, the doctors couldn't pinpoint the issue right away leaving me in agony. Despite the pain and uncertainty, I was able to find solace in scripture. Its words provided me with peace and comfort during a truly trying time.
The word of God gives us direction
When we stand on the word of God, we have a clear sense of direction for our lives. In Psalm 119:105, it says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." The more time we spend in God's word, the more we understand our purpose and calling in life. We can trust that as we follow God's direction, he will guide us to exactly where we need to be. I remember asking the Lord for guidance as I sought an answer on my path to becoming a teacher. To my delight, doors began to open! I successfully passed my teacher exam, and through the guidance of a kind advisor, landed a job teaching at a catholic high school. Blessed with this opportunity, I was grateful for a path guided by the Lord.
The word of God is unchanging
In a world that is constantly changing, the word of God remains the same. In Hebrews 13:8, it says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." The word of God is constant and unchanging, and we can trust that what it says will always be true. Have you ever noticed how easily life can sway our emotions? From fickle fashion trends to unpredictable weather, it can feel like everything around us is constantly shifting. But amidst all this change, there's one thing I'm endlessly grateful for: Jesus and His unwavering word. It's a steady anchor we can always rely on - a truth to stand firm upon, no matter what life may throw our way. Indeed, He is our firm foundation.
The word of God is important for our spiritual growth
Lastly, the word of God is important for our spiritual growth because it keeps our hearts and minds focused on what truly matters. It's easy to get distracted by the things of this world and forget about the bigger picture. However, when we spend time in the word of God, we are reminded of His promises and the hope that we have in Him. This creates a perspective shift that helps us to see everything in light of His goodness and grace. By prioritizing time with God, we are able to keep our hearts and minds fixed on Him, which enables us to live a life that brings glory to His name.
Conclusion:
When the cares of life start to become a priority, it can be easy to let our time with God fall by the wayside. But as Christian women, we need to make sure that we are standing on the word of God every day. When we do, we are building our lives on a firm foundation, experiencing peace, finding direction, and trusting in something that will never change as well as growing spiritually in our relationship with the Lord. So, let's make sure that we are putting God first in our lives, and standing on the word of God no matter what comes our way.
